John, your stethoscope won't be much help without training, understanding, and experience in the technique of opening safes with unknown combinations. You'll hear things as you work the lock, but what you hear will be meaningless to you. The dialing tolerances on the S&G locks used by Taylor were approximately two numbers, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on several factors. So your dialing needs to be reasonably accurate, but that's only if you know the combination. Your best best would be to pay a safe technician to get the safe open and working with a new combination of your choosing. Look in the phone book unders "safes" first, "locksmiths" second if no result under safes. Good luck. |
