I guess I should have followed up with the outcome back in August. I recently received two emails regarding my original post so I will "close out" my problem by posting the outcome. After having no luck open the safe despite several people responding to my posting I took the safe to a reputable local locksmith. After trying only twice and asking if I was positive this was the combination he proceeded to wail on my safe with a wooden mallet. To be honest I thought he was nuts until the safe opened. He explained that due to age and lack of use the mechanism was probably sticking. I left the door of the safe and picked it up several days later after being checked and lubricated. He only charged me around $25 bucks for the work. I have been using the safe for the past six months or so without a single problem. I do open it on a weekly basis whether I need to or not just to prevent any problems from lack of use. I hope this may help helpful to someone else having similar problems. Thanks to all who replied to my post in the forum and via email. Raymond |
